Passing cocoa butter can be a good solution to keep your lips hydrated and soft, fighting dryness and cracks that may be present.
Using a colorless lipstick with SPF 15 sunscreen is also a good help to protect your lips, especially on cold days or when going to be exposed to the sun. Other good solutions to combat dry and chapped lips is to apply a thin layer of:
- Beeswax;
- Almond oil;
- Lipstick with shea butter;
- Lipstick with vitamin E;
- Vaseline;
- Lanolin;
- Olive oil;
- Aloe gel, just cut the leaf and apply to the lips, leaving it to act for about 20 minutes;
- Bepantol cream;
- Coconut oil;
- Lard of pig or sheep;
Mix 1 spoon of virgin wax, melted in a water bath, with 1 spoon of almond oil and then store in a small container.
When the lips are healthy again, without cracking, it is also recommended to exfoliate once a week. A good homemade way is to rub 1 teaspoon of honey mixed with sugar on your lips, making small circular movements. Next, moisturize your lips with some of the aforementioned balms.
Dryness of the lips can be caused by situations such as:
- Dehydration: It can occur by not drinking enough water, but the main cause is excessive sweating.
- Habit of licking the lips: The saliva is acidic and when in constant contact with the lips they become dry and can become cracked;
- Cold weather: In the fall and winter the weather gets drier and the lips can become so dry that they can peel and crack because there are no fat cells to protect you.
- Sun exposure: It happens when the person is exposed to the sun for a long time without sun protection in the mouth, which ends up burning the lips and leaving them dry;
- Breathing through the mouth: The passage of air through the mouth dries out the lips even more and they can become dry and cracked.
- During radiotherapy treatment on the head and neck: Because radiation tends to further remove the layer of water that protects the lips.
- Toothpaste with sodium lauryl sulfate: This substance is irritating and can dry out your lips right after brushing your teeth;
- Lack of vitamin B: Ingesting little vitamin B, present in chicken, avocado, bananas and beans, also favors the appearance of dry lips.
- Excessive vitamin A: Consuming excessive doses of vitamin A, present in butter, cheese, eggs and carrots, can leave the lips chapped, but the skin also tends to become very orange.
- Psoriasis: The person with psoriasis is much more likely to have dry lips
- Acne remedies, such as tretinoin;
- Use long-lasting matte lipstick, which has lead in its composition;
So, in addition to avoiding all these causes it is also important not to use lipsticks 24 hours, drink plenty of water and not wet your lips with saliva.
Dry and cracked lips in the corner of the mouth
Cheilitis is the name of the condition where a small sore appears in the corner of the mouth, which is painful and the skin is very dry and even peels, making it difficult to open the mouth. This happens due to the overgrowth of fungi, or bacteria, due to the habit of licking your lips constantly.
To combat it can be used a healing ointment, indicated by the doctor or dentist, for example. Applying a little aloe vera is also a great home remedy for a sore in the corner of your mouth.
