Discover some alternative online bookstores to the big chains, like Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

In this text, I bring the result of a survey of American bookstore websites, which have online sales websites.

The subject is not exhausted with this post, because the amount is huge.

Of course, most small and medium-sized bookstores struggle to survive in competition with the giants Amazon, Barnes and Noble etc. However, some are worth knowing!

Many of them unite and form a single online sales site, as a strategy to stay in the market.

It’s worth getting to know them and spending time on their sites — where you can find many treasures eager to discover.

You can even check the possibility of deliveries by looking for international delivery or shipping, on the website of any of them. In general, this information is found on pages or FAQs accessible by links at the bottom of the main page. Most deliver fast across the country and even make international deliveries.

Barnes and Noble

This is probably the bookstore that competes most strongly with the giant Amazon, inside and outside the United States.

The store has the advantage of accepting multiple credit cards and PayPal.

As a large conglomerate, it has its own ebook formats (nook) and a line of digital readers to read them.

Of course, you can use an Android or IOS app, to read any format on your tablet or mobile phone — if you can’t or don’t want to buy a specific reader.

There are also PC apps, which read the nook format.

DeseretBooks.com

The company belongs to a religious denomination, so expect to find several articles in this “direction”.

The publications offered follow the religious vision of church leaders.

In the midst of all this, it is possible to find offers from classic authors of the English language.

If this is important to you… The store does not accept PayPal, so far.

AbeBooks.com

Like other sites, it is made up of several small stores that sell their items on Abe Books. Some of these stores accept PayPal.

The network has subsidiaries in the UK, Italy, Germany etc.

Access here https://www.abebooks.com.

HudsonBooksellers.com

In the United States, the Hudson Group works with a chain of bookstores and restaurants (fast food).

Its stores can be found mainly at airports and train stations.

Since 2008, the network belongs to the Swiss company Dufry.

powells.com

The Powell’s Books chain of bookstores is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.

Your inventory reaches 4 million used, new and rare books.

The site delivers to US and several countries and accepts payment via PayPal.

BetterWorldBooks.com

The BetterWorld bookstore has delivery (including free) to almost everyone.

In fact, it only has this type of international delivery, which has no tracking possibility.

It supports multiple payment methods including PayPal.

I was quite impressed by the documentation on the site — the information I needed was easy to find.
