Running your own business is a major undertaking. Many women put the needs of their business and their household above their own. Focusing on your own wellness is one of the best ways to ensure you have time for everything you need to do without suffering burnout.

Save Time at Work

One of the advantages of being your own boss is getting to set your own schedule. Instead of having to be clocked in for eight hours, you can move on to other things after you have completed all necessary tasks for the day. Even finishing 30 minutes early frees up your evening for a little more personal time.

The business structure you choose affects how much paperwork must be done. For example, a limited liability company has relatively little paperwork and a fair amount of flexibility. This structure protects your personal assets from lawsuits against the business, giving you peace of mind. To save time incorporating an LLC, you can work with your Zen Business contact to file the paperwork for you.

In fact, many tasks can be outsourced to freelancers. Bookkeeping, office cleaning, and any necessary tasks that fall outside your realm of expertise are good candidates for outsourcing. Make sure the office setup is conducive to productivity. Keep clutter cleared away and replace slow, outdated electronics. Take other steps to increase productivity. Minimize distractions, set aside specific time blocks to address email, and prioritize to-do items so you can focus on the present.

Save Time at Home

Recent studies show that women are still more likely to be responsible for household tasks than their male counterparts, so it’s important to streamline household chores. Don’t be afraid to ask other members of your household to help out. Declutter now to save time on cleaning and organizing later. Consider investing in multiple hampers to keep your whites and colors separated to avoid having to sort them on laundry day.

If you are in charge of grocery shopping, be sure to simplify the process. Consider keeping a “master list” on the refrigerator so household members can add items as they run out. Look for bargains before heading to the store. Depending on where you live and shop, you may be able to select your items online and have them brought out to your car or delivered to your home.

Take Time for Yourself

Remember that you are saving time at work and on household tasks not so you can do more of them, but so you can take care of yourself. Consider adding a morning exercise routine to your daily schedule. It doesn’t have to be long but just enough to start your day off right.

In the evenings (or whenever fits in your schedule), engage in relaxation. Make it a priority. Many people find journaling or yoga calming, while others prefer a hot bath or meditation. If you feel guilty taking this time, remind yourself that you are doing this so that you can continue to give your best. You don’t feel bad about having to charge your phone, so don’t feel bad about charging yourself.

Saving time at work and on household chores frees up time for you to relax and focus on your wellbeing. Self-care, in turn, helps you be more productive and focused, allowing you to move faster through your daily obligations and giving you even more time for yourself and your loved ones.
