Babies have very different skin from adults. Presenting a finer, delicate and sensitive texture, the little ones are more susceptible to external aggressions – such as sun exposure, pollution, climate change, among others. Therefore, care with the region needs to be even greater, especially regarding the use of dermocosmetics, which need to be specific for children’s skin.

Get to know your baby’s first skin care

Because it is very sensitive and thin, babies’ skin has a higher risk of suffering damage after exposure to external agents, such as the use of dermocosmetics. This scenario occurs during childhood, but can remain until adolescence, at the time of puberty. According to the dermatologist, “this happens due to the low hormonal production that makes the skin have a hydrolipidic layer more susceptible to permeability and the toxic potential of substances applied on it.

Therefore, it is important to be very careful and avoid using as much as possible any products on children’s skin – such as perfumes, makeup and creams -, especially those that are not for use by children, to prevent allergic reactions. If the child has skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, requires treatment and use of moisturizers recommended by the dermatologist.

Attention to the use of products on children’s skin

Currently, there are many products that are intended for children’s skin, however, it is important that they are used only with the indication of the dermatologist.

Sunscreen is your child’s best friend

Because it has a lower amount of melanin, the child’s skin is also very photosensitive and, consequently, is more likely to develop sunburn. These childhood burns are very significant factors for the appearance of skin cancer in adulthood, warn the doctors.

Therefore, it is important to use the sunscreen with SPF 30, at least, from 6 months of life. Before that age, protect your child from radiation with physical barriers – hats, parasols and clothes with UV protection.
