During the first year of life, the baby’s first teeth are born. Each child reacts in a different way and parents need to be patient to deal with symptoms, which can include irritation and redness of the gums. In addition, they must do the proper oral hygiene.

WHEN DO THE FIRST TEETH APPEAR?

Usually, the first teeth appear around six months of age. But each organism has its own pace. It is natural for them to appear sometime between three months and a year old. When the child is three years old, he will probably have 20 baby teeth in his mouth.

ORTH OF BIRTH OF TEETH

  • Lower incisors: they are usually the first to appear, around five to seven months of age.
  • Upper incisors: tend to be born between six and eight months.
  • Upper lateral incisors: between nine and 11 months.
  • Lower lateral incisors: between 10 and 12 months.
  • First molars: between 12 and 16 months.
  • Canines: between 16 and 20 months.
  • Second molars: between 20 and 30 months.

SYMPTOMS OF BIRTH OF FIRST TEETH

During teething, some babies become more aggressive than usual because of pain and swelling in the gums. Symptoms usually appear about three to five days before the tooth is born (but there are cases where they last for weeks), and disappear as soon as the teeth break through the skin. But there are some lucky babies who suffer absolutely nothing from the birth of their first teeth.

The most common symptoms are:

  1. Cry or whimper more than usual.
  2. Redness and pain in the gums, where the tooth will be born.
  3. One cheek flushed more than the other.
  4. Drool more than usual.
  5. Gnaw and chew things a lot.
  6. Irritability and bad mood.
  7. Refuse to eat and drink.
  8. Waking up more often during the night.
  9. Slight bleeding from the gum, where the tooth should be born.

The symptoms are normal and disappear as the teeth are born. If they are very severe or do not disappear, consult your doctor. Many people believe that fever and diarrhea are teething symptoms, but there is no scientific evidence. Take the baby to the pediatrician whenever something is out of the ordinary.

HOW TO RELIEVE SYMPTOMS

If the baby is suffering a lot during the birth of the first teeth, it is possible to take some steps to help him. One is to wash your hands thoroughly and rub one finger on the child’s gums for about two minutes. Many feel relieved with the massage.

Caring and cuddling can also offer relief. As the baby can become irritable and sly, you need to be patient and pay attention. The best remedy, however, is to chew. Objects such as teething rings, rattles and other flexible toys help the baby to relieve pain and itching.

In extreme cases, the baby can take an analgesic, as long as prescribed by the doctor.

TEETH CARE

Just as you floss and brush your teeth after each meal, you need to take care of your baby’s oral health. In order for him to grow up with a beautiful healthy smile, some precautions can be taken:

  • Breastfeeding is the first and best way to stimulate the proper development of teeth and face, according to the World Health Organization.
  • When the first front teeth appear, they should be cleaned with a soft, clean cloth, moistened with clean water.
  • When the other teeth appear, cleaning can be done with a soft toothbrush and no toothpaste, just soaked in clean water.
  • Always clean your teeth after eating food and medicines
